What is Health Insurance?
Health insurance in its simplest form means insuring yourself against the costs of diagnosis and private medical treatment of acute (curable) medical conditions.

Why do you need private health insurance despite the NHS?
The NHS generally provide a very good service, however often there are long waiting lists for treatment. This is were private health insurance can help you get instant diagnosis or treatment and some of the best hospitals in the country, by the best specialists in the country.

What's covered?
What your policy covers will vary depending on your insurer and what level of cover you have opted for. Most insurers will cover in-patient treatment and depending on how comphrensive your policy is, a mixture of out-patient, physiotherapy, pschotherapy, dental and optical treatment.

What's not covered?
Insurers will rarely cover any condition, or sympton, you have had pre to you taking out the policy - known as a pre-existing condition. Private health insurance is not intended to provide preventative treatment or treatment of long-term or incurable (chronic) conditions.

What medical details do I need to provide?
If you are accepted under a moratorium, you will not need to provide any medical history as you will not be covered for any pre-existing conditions within the last five years. Other options include medical history disregarded and fully medicaly underwritten.
