What is health insurance?
Health insurance is not designed as an alternative to the NHS, but to compliment it.
Private health insurance gives you access to private healthcare when and where you require it, saving you the worry of NHS waiting lists.
Private healthcare used to be the domain of the wealthy, with most operations and care costing thousands. However, with health insurance you can pay an affordable amount annually, or monthly and when you need private healthcare, your private health insurance provider will cover the cost of the treatment direct with the hospital or specialist.
If you do not currently have private health insurance then when you take out a policy you will be accepted under a moratorium. This means that you will not be covered for any illnesses or symptons you have had in the five years previous to taking out your policy. These conditions are usually covered after you have had a policy for two years and you have been sympton free. This will vary between insurers so it is vital to check with your provider what their policy covers.
